Western Australia leads Australia in lawn presentation (the bowling green finish). To maintain this level, your lawn needs to be mowed regularly, preferably with a cylinder mower, this will also keep it in good condition.
CKD's Lawnmowing Service Lawnmowing generally mow at 12 mm or less in summer, this height will give the roots sufficient protection from the sun and will assist in avoiding serious thatching.
NOTE:  Lawns should be mowed just above the photosynthesis line.  If the lawn is growing rapidly, there is no benefit in raising your blades.  The lawn must be mowed more often otherwise problems such as thatching and spongy lawns will develop.
Frequency of cutting depends on the type of lawn and how it is being treated.  It can vary from 1-2 weeks between mowing in summer, winter is usually 3-4 weekly, any extension to this period will see a weed problem develop.

Mis Information
For the past few years, we have been listening to the so-called experts in Turf Management telling us that we must mow grass higher and higher as during the hot weather, the roots get cooked and the extra height would not only protect the turf, but it also supposedly saved water.
The Water Corporation have commissioned a trial which has proved beyond doubt that mowing grass between 15 and 40mm actually increases water usage by 10% or more. This obviously does not apply to some of the soft leaf buffalo lawns, although CKD's has always found in the past that, kept in good health, they can easily be managed at 8-12mm with minimal surface runners.
CKD's Lawnmowing Service will happily assist you with a regular lawnmowing programme suitable for your lawn. We offer a comprehensive service which includes cylinder or rotary mowing as required, edging and brushcutting. All paths and driveways are swept clean upon completion.
